An unheard of game that could have had a HUGE fan base.

I bought this game in a pawn shop. At first I hated it, I wanted to trade it back in, but my parents wouldnt let me. So I kept at it. Eventually it became one of my all-time favorites. I wish I had a working Genesis right now, I'd play it over and over again.

I didn't know what to expect in terms of gameplay when I first got this game. It turns out its a shooter. A top-down,flat, space shooter. And I couldnt be happier. The game follows a complex pattern throught the entire game that I could only compare to Ikaruga. The powerups start off as dinky little projectiles, shields, lasers, etc. Then get up to monstrosities that look powerful enough to blow anything out of the sky. The storyline is very basic and only starts you off as Terri, a pilot searching the skies for the enemy. Im not sure what or who the enemy is, I never had the booklet. You eventually get guns turrets that float along beside or behind or in front of you. You can select which. This is also extremely important as the number is limited and running them into things will cause you to lose them. You can select the speed at which your Mech travels by pausing the game. From I-know-Im-going-to-die-at-this-speed slow, to man,-thats-kinda-fast.

The graphics are what you'd expect from a Genesis game at that time: flat, boring, unrealistic explosions pepper the sky like so much confetti. And maybe thats what makes it so cool. Aside from the catridge and a few in-game shots, you only see your MUSHA from the top. The power-ups dont obstruct you from what youre destroying.

The sound is, of course, midi'd. There are no voices, no big sequences where its silent. The music is always in the background if you want it. The destroying of enemies sounds like... banging on a cardboard box with a stick. Thats the best I can describe it.

Ive probably wasted as many hours with this game as I have with Vectorman. And in those days, I had a lot of time on my hands. It was a rare game that kept my attention going either all the time, or none of the time.

This game is a complete and utter rare find. Im glad I have it. For those of you that dont, I suggest you either hunt it down online or start looking for the rom. This should have been one of those games that garnered so much attention from everyone, but it was all stolen thanks to Mortal Kombat and the like.
