It sports good graphics and some exciting action, but it really falls short.

Muscle Car '76 is a bare bones budget racing game that sports some rather good graphics for its release. Created by Globalstar Software, a budget title software company, players choose to race as one of 8 cars on four different tracks. There are four or three circuits that consist each of three tracks. Usually one track that is played forward and mirrored, and then a third one that takes place somewhere else. Players can also take part in a Cop Chase mode which is probably the best feature. Each car is specially suited to a different track though, like Carlos is best suited to the starting Amazon tracks. This however is actually a bit of a problem.

The racing seems to be tipped in the favor of the track star, which means that Carlos car will be better for the Amazon tracks, but not for track three of circuit one. I found that racing as Carlos in track three just horribly hard and uncanny. While it may make sense to play as the track favorite of the third track, you'll find it hard to even come close to winning in the first two maps. The third map though will go like a breeze, if you make it there. IN order to continue tracks, you just place First or Third in tracks 1 and 2. To progress after track three, however, you have to place first. ONLY FIRST.

However, while the campaign is nothing worth playing really because of the difficultly, except for the incentive of gaining new maps, the Cop Chase mode is a positive piece of the game. You race against the clock and three other racers, all the while being slowed down by cop cars. The challenge is actually quite fun, and without a doubt the games best gameplay feature.

All in all, this game should only be bought really though if you have a couple extra bucks to spend.
