Squenix: Murdering nostalgia since the merge.

User Rating: 4.5 | Musashi: Samurai Legend PS2
If you come to this game unaware of the original, you may enjoy it. Afterall, it's an okay, albeit repetitive hack n slash... but then that's the thing. The original Musashi was an action/rpg for all intensive purposes, but was it a hack n slash? No. Brave Fencer had a focus on puzzles, exploration, and most importantly: heart. What does Samurai Legend have? Really nice graphics and a lot of uh... killing. From the onset at the opening castle, there is a bridge lined with at least 2 dozen annoying robots. The minute I saw them I knew this game was going to be a stinker.

Take everything you liked about the original and throw it out the window. Yes, you charge up and gain new abilities, okay, that's cool. But then of course, it's just irritating to pull off... and then you fight and fight and fight with these mechanics that aren't even any fun. I feel like I have to stand in an exact spot to actually land hits on enemies, and then Musashi moves stupidly clunky and slow while he's at it. So... you guys can make these amazing graphics but you can't make this crazy cool-looking guy move like a crazy cool-looking guy? Yuck.

The best looking game on PS2? Maybe. Even then, the aesthetic seems like it just wants to capitalize on the success of Kingdom Hearts. The designs of characters and baddies can pretty much be interchanged with that game.

Brave Fencer had terrible graphics and great gameplay. This one has great graphics and terrible gameplay. I say go get the original and get over what an eyesore it is.
