A faithful translation of an arcade hit.

User Rating: 9 | Mortal Kombat II: Kyuukyoku Shinken SNES
Released back in 1993 Mortal Kombat II had appeared on most every system that was made back then and it even found it's way onto newer systems as well. The sequel was much better than the first because it featured a faster fighting system and more playable characters and even bloodier fatalities and for some fun friendships were introduced as well to help say the game wasn't all that dark and bloody. Also this was the first game violent game that I ever played next to Doom and let me tell you my parents we're all that thrilled that I was play such a bloody game and since the first Mortal Kombat caused the outcry of violence in games my parents wouldn't get it for me and the only time I could play it was at a friend's house.

Since fighting games don't have that much of a story, it was pretty simple in Mortal Kombat II as it when after Shung Tsung's defeat at the hands of Liu Kang in the first Mortal Kombat Shao Kahn wasn't to happy about Shang Tsung's defeat and Shang begged Kahn to give him another chance as he did and restored his young and another tournament was being held in Outworld, but this was just the beginning of a bigger plan which was introduced in Mortal Kombat 3. This time around you had 12 playable characters and although they played the same as far as kicking and punching what made them separate was the fact they had their own special moves which the Mortal Kombat series was known for and it worked very well for the game as it played faster than the first game and of course the fatalities were back in full force and each character had 2 fatalities expect for Shung Tsung, Johnny Cage, and Scorpion who had three and the fatalities were bloody as always, but that's what made them interesting because some of them were downright brutal.

As far as all the releases for Mortal Kombat 2 all of them were uncensored and that included the SNES version as well which was a first for the SNES as most of the games had been kid friendly and all of the fatalities were uncensored as well and I've seen some footage from the Japanese version and it was censored to a degree as the blood was green and the screen turned to black and white for the fatalities, but other than that all the versions of MK 2 were pretty good expect for the Amiga version which had to load the fatalities and other than some minor graphic problems with the console versions it was the best Mortal Kombat to me because the way it played and the way it improved over the original. All in all Mortal Kombat II was a great game that improved on the original in a number of ways and for that I give it a 9.
