One Of the Most Influential Fighting Games Of All Time MORTAL KOMBAT... 2!!!

User Rating: 9 | Mortal Kombat II ARC

Mortal Kombat 2 brought thousands if-not millions of quarters out of the pockets of each person in the Arcades. The consoles made it that much more easier to figure out the fatalities but the Arcade addiction was extremely real. You're privileged with choosing between 12 characters and the fight system was realistic. You had a high punch, low punch, low kick, high kick, block, and a series of projectiles from your character if you input the commands right. I liked the constant mashing of high punch or low punch, because you can throw a series of left and right punches just as if in real-life you'd fight that way. The jump kicks were good as well. The most famous move in all of Mortal Kombat, is the UPPERCUT FROM HELL (down, high punch) That uppercut sent your opponent or you flying in the air until landfall while the announcer praises with "Outstanding"! "Superb" "Well-Done" or Dan Forden's "Toasty!" The blood that spats out after each blow was also cathartic because the screen shakes upon impact. Ed Boon was the brain of this game, and his developers really created a special cultural game for the ages. This is one of those games that many generations of children will enjoy for a lifetime. I hope the franchise continues forever. The 2D graphics uses a combination of computer animated artistic backgrounds and the use of real-life actors digitized as sprites. This blend brings that rare realism to the game making a lasting impression on the franchise to this day. Clever uses of palette swaps were also implemented so that you had different ninja characters like Mileena, Sub-Zero, Kitana, Reptile, and last but not least Scorpion. The movements of the game is fast enough, so you get an action packed competitive challenge out of the game. The A.I. is especially competitive so don't expect your wins to be easy when you're facing the CPU, they have a counter for just about every move at some point. Your solo fights quest through all of the fighters until you reach Shao Kahn and ultimately beating the game. Best of all you're privileged to play with a younger Shang Tsung, the boss of the previous Mortal Kombat. He can transform into any character and use their moveset temporarily and even perform their fatalities. There are also secrets if you wish to fight hidden characters like Noob Saibot, Smoke, or Jade. The game wouldn't be Mortal Kombat without fatalities. You'd input the special command in after "Finish HIM!!!" and if entered correctly, the screen turns dim and your character performs an execution on your opponent. "Scorpion Wins!!! FATALITY!!!"" Back then you had to figure these commands out, but eventually these secrets were leaked to the public. I love the Arcade Kollection released on PS3 & 360, which housed the first 3 Mortal Kombats into one collection. If I had to recommend a fighting franchise, it definitely would be the cultural phenomenon, Mortal Kombat 2. This game is a classic and will be enjoyed by generationz!!!
