Mortal Kombat: Deception is No Exception in the MK Series

User Rating: 8.1 | Mortal Kombat: Deception PS2
Mortal Kombat, the most famous, most controversial, best fighting series around (in my opinion), it has a moving and strong story, interesting characters, and redefined the way of fighting games. The series started with the original MK in 1992, then to the sequel in 1993, and MK3 and it's 2 updates, MK4 and the way of using 3D graphics, and MK: Deadly Alliance highly improved on that, then came Mortal Kombat: Deception.

Mortal Kombat: Deception brings an all new story and all new characters, this time, the villain is Onaga, the Dragon King. The sub-boss is Noob-Smoke (I thought Smoke was better being allies with Sub-Zero), and several other new characters. The mix of classic MK fighters and all new fighters is good, but the default ammount of fighters is kind of lame. Chess Kombat and Puzzle Kombat are innovative new features, however, Konquest mode is bland and hardly playable, and I don't think Shujinko was a well developed character (Taven in MK: Armageddon is much better in my opinion). The game has very realistic graphics, some of the finest looking graphics for an MK game, and the sound is excellent too.

However, fight mode could be improved. It's slow, but once you knock your opponent around environments, it gets fun, and it gets hard at times. The new roster of fighters includes long forgotten characters like Nightwolf, Ermac and others. The Premium Edition has good offers too, the original Mortal Kombat, the MK History (but it's cut shorter than the version seen in MK: DA), and video bio cards for over 25 characters. Overall, with the many things to do and see in the game, MK fans, and fighting game fans will be satisfied. In my opinion, I thought this wasn't the best MK game, but it's still very good.
