User Rating: 8 | Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess PSP
Since its introduction on the Playstation Store, the Mini service has played host to a collection of dismal games that aren't even worth a second glance. However there is a handful of gems buried amongst the garbage and the curiously titled Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess is one of them.

The story opens with a vampire named Duke who awakens to find his Princess stolen. He instantly jumps to the conclusion that monsters are responsible and it's up to you to take down five different monsters in five separate stages. Each level begins and ends with a high quality animated cut-scene. The whole game is one massive joke and nothing is without a humorous touch. Whether it be the comical information that appears on the loading screens or the amusing dialogue from Duke's mouth. There's always something to make you chuckle. To defeat a monster you must chase after it by jumping up numerous platforms and double jump into it three times before it escapes. After the last double jump into the monster has been performed, Duke will defeat the monster with an entertaining finishing move. When you first jump onto a platform it initializes a combo. For each platform you jump onto, the combo will increase in number. But don't land on a platform you've already be on, because doing this will reset the combo to zero. Trying to achieve a large combo is a challenging task that requires a lot of skill. But they do reward you with more points and if you manage defeat a monster with a giant combo you'll be treated with a more elaborate finishing move.

All five stages in the story mode can be completed in less than half an hour. But don't fret, because the game doesn't end there. Earning a gold medal in every stage in the story mode will unlock an additional stage. A separate mode called Score Attack offers variations of the levels found in the Story Mode that will really test the skills of those who seek a challenge. Of course you hard work doesn't go unrewarded, since there is a series of entertaining scrap book entries and in-game trophies to unlock. The cartoon art style used for the visuals in this game is delightful and the soundtrack consists of catchy remixes of familiar pieces of music.

Without any regrets Monsters Probably Stole My Princess can be branded as one of the best Playstation minis available. It's humorous, charming and a lot of fun to play. Developers should look upon is as a template when they're developing their next Playstation mini and I hope one day we'll see more adventures that feature the Duke.
