Simple and Addictive fun!

When you look at Monster Hunter in general people may not see much. No story. Most people will be turned off by the lack of someone telling them what to do to progress through a story. Maybe a lack of reason to "beat" the game. But what they need to realize is you don't need a story to guide you through this game. You need the simple motivation of killing that big monster so you can carve him, and use his parts to make armor and weapons. Know what you should do with that shiny new armor and awesome weapon? Go out and kill that monster who is bigger and badder than the last one. Guess what. Carve him, make bigger and badder weapons and armor, and go out and kill that even bigger and cooler monster!

Now the best part comes in if you have a buddy who plays, or if you can get a buddy into the game. Guess what you do with this buddy? Go and hunt some awesome freakin' monsters so you guys can make some awesome gear and kill the bigger monsters! It sounds simple and maybe even boring just like Animal Crossing (which is an amazing game) but that is where the gameplay comes in.

Some people may be put off by how difficult the game is. Basically when you get to your first Yian Kut-Ku there are two things that could happen. One, you are going to fight him and win (hands down win, or just get by). Two, he is going to kick your butt a few times and you are going to throw your PSP against the wall, declare the game broken, and then go online to voice your terrible opinion that no one really cares about.

But anyway, the gameplay comes down to strait up boss fights. Each monster has its own strengths and weaknesses. And they all fight in completely different ways. The best way to counter a relentless assault is to stand back and take a good look at the attacks, figure out when there are pauses between the animations and attack when you have the chance. Figuring out a monster is like a good puzzle.

the only complaint most people have is the camera. But what people dont get is the perfect roll the camera serves. Because you have full control of the camera you are able to run around and do whatever you need to and still be able to keep an eye on that monster who is going to be charging in your general direction. It will take some getting used to but "The Claw" is by far the best way to control the camera.

Out of all of that my only complaint is the lack of a true online system that is easy to access. If there is an actual online i havent seen it. I know you need to do some weird Adhoc thing with your PSP and PS3 but past that i honestly dont know. But past that the best news is that you will be spending plenty of time in this game. In the sea of games that last about 10-15 hours tops to play through this game will last you a solid 300hours ++. I myself have 302hours logged on my main guy and i still have plenty of content to burn through!

Overall, easily one of the best games i have ever played.
