After all these years – the Winner and Still Champion!!!

User Rating: 10 | Punch-Out!! NES
This is the reason Nintendo decided to incorporate the Virtual Console into the Wii. Well actually I would guess that money was the real reason, but it was games like this that after years of play pass the test of time and still remain favorites today. It also proves that a game needs not be complicated or have impressive graphics to be a classic. (see also Tetris, Brain Age. Etc.), The cast of characters and simple game play are a staple in this classic that was a staple of the NES under the name of Mike Tyson's Punch Out then in 1990 renaming the title Punch Out Featuring – Mr Dream. The game play is logical and entertaining. As if it needs explaining you start fighting guys with little talent and each new fighter gets a little bit better until you face Tyson / Mr. Dream. Each fighter has weaknesses that can be exploited with the use of star punches, timed combos, and basically figuring out patterns to beat each fighter. Nothing fancy, but nothing I have ever played is more addictive.

The good, The Bad, The Interesting –

The Good – Everything about this game is not good – it is great. The game play is fast and the fights offer plenty of difficulty as you advance. There are plenty of cheat codes out there and codes that can advance you to just about anywhere throughout the game, but rarely have I used them. To me it is still fun to start at Glass Joe and advance through the game from the beginning. The Bad – I honestly don't think there is anything bad about the game. I have been playing games for years and have many favorite games, but to this day this is the only game I will give a perfect 10 to. If I may steal a line from Mr. Adam Sandler (as Billy Madison) " I disagree, it's a very good game( referring to Mortal Combat), but I think Punch Out is the best game ever." The Interesting – In 1990, towards the end of the NES's run, the game was re-released as Punch-Out!!, with the Tyson character replaced by Mr. Dream. Mr. Dream fought in the same fashion as Tyson, but had cosmetic changes to his face and skin color. Contrary to popular belief, Tyson was removed not because of his 1991 rape conviction, (Which happened a year after the changeover) but because of a contract dispute with Nintendo and his title loss to Buster Douglas. Like I said this is a perfect game it gets a 10. I have never met enyone who hasn't liked this game after playing it. Even a girlfriend who thought it looked like a waste of time was instantly hooked after playing for only a few minutes.
