LA Remix is the definition of superb racing on the PSP.

Now I loved MC3, I thought it was fantastic. Played it on both PS2 and PSP just to see the differences and despite them, I still loved it.

Now Rockstar has released LA Remix, a smaller more portable version of MC: LA (Which I hope to review later on the PS3). Now overall the racing is generally the same, hit checkpoints all over the map and get there first. There are dash races or "red light races" in which you race to a single checkpoint. There are series races where you have to win a certain amount of races to win.

In other words, there are a ton of race modes for MC. Most of which should be familiar if you've played the previous games. Overall racing is done pretty well. Graphics aren't bad, they're a lot better than the previous MC3 PSP version and LA looks wonderful. Though it's just a small portion of the real thing.

MC: LA Remix has a lot of cars to offer. However from my count and quick glance, it looks like there are less compared to MC3. Which in my mind, isn't bad, but it's kind of disappointing. Most cars that I loved in MC3 don't even make a reappearance in LA Remix.

Now in order to advance in the game, you must win races. The better you do in a race, the more rep and money you get. The problem is, some races are so hard to win in, that you're better off doing small races and just getting enough cash to upgrade your car. Unfortunately even this isn't enough. In MC3, the AIs cars were dependent on your car. Meaning if you drove a Class D, they'd drive a Class D. From what I know in this, they're preset meaning you'll have a lot of trouble if you're not prepared for it.

The garage mode is pretty much the same. However you need to do a lot more to unlock all the stuff. In other words, you gotta work for your parts, but with races being so difficult, it's hard to get anywhere.

Another thing, the map of LA is small. But it seems..too easy. I remember in MC3 where Detroit was annoying to race in because of the obstacles but this LA map is more like San Diego with a spice of Detroit. Making driving around really weird. Normally I'd be able to figure out shortcuts just based on the city, but LA is different and it's not a bad thing. I just wish it didn't feel like a mesh of the maps from the previous game.

Overall MC: LA Remix is a hard game, but if you're looking for a fantastic racer on the PSP while you wait for GT Mobile to EVER be released. Then this is your game.
