The Other M is a great addition the series. Yet, it's not quite expected to be called a masterpiece.

The game is awesome. A brand new adventure with a storyline and characters involved makes The Other Metroid worthy of being part of the series. However, a few flaws has hindered its chance to receive the title of a masterpiece.

The gameplay is....amazing!! Shout out to Team Ninja for a great development. What surprised me was that everything is controlled using just only a Wiimote. Also, it can switch from 3rd to 1st person with an aim to the screen without a problem. Want to use the right missiles or bombs? No problem. The 1st person will automatically detect what to destroy an enemy or wall with and select it, so all you gotta do is shoot, or morph ball then press a button. The 3rd person is the most fun though, as you run, jump, shoot and explore in non-stop action. The combat has upgraded and definitely benefits from the new moves. Samus can evade with easy timing, counterattack against some enemies, and then can do a lethal finisher with they're down. All of these additions makes the combat fun, smooth, and exciting to try out.
The boss battles are challenging, yet fun. Each consist a unique strategy to defeat it, so it always keeps you on your toes. Switching from 3rd to 1st person and vice versa is not hard, but not easy either depending on what you fight, which adds to the challenge.

The story of the game is what makes the game not worth enjoying much. It wasn't the linear feature, it was more of the acting and characters. The female protagonist unfortunately suffered from having a soft personality throughout the story and doesn't match up with the strong Samus that gamers and fans all know. However, it was kinda okay to at least have a story of what's going on to break the cycle from the series. The scenes are okay to watch, though unskippable sadly, and the voice acting are not really so hot as well.

The graphics are very nice. They barely are affected while loading, during cutscenes and gameplay. The environments are great to look at and the characters are well designed. Even the real-life injuries of the monsters are more realistic.

The music is more silent, but emerges strong when dealing with the bosses or sub-bosses. Also, during the gameplay, the music is filled with the eerie sounds making you think you're actually in outer space. The cutscene music displays a bit too much sympathy, which makes Samus' story not really enjoyable. Yet, it is composed beautifully.

The features are great. The hidden missile and health upgrades are rewarding to search for on the ship. Definitely, they will make the game more fun, replayable and easier to deal with. Also, Samus' abilities and weapons are fun to try out and don't require additional buttons to perform. The speed booster is my favorite, as it can take out enemies at super speed and Samus can jump very long distances in any direction (Wheeee!!).

Overall, The Other M is a great game to try out. The gameplay, graphics, music, and features are strong points for this game. The story was the main downfall with bad voice acting and characterization. However, this Metroid earns its place in the series.
