Nice, challenging "Metroid" game that's a little on the short side.

When it comes to the "Metroid" games, I only consider the 2D "Metroid" games to be the REAL "Metroid" games. As far as I'm concerned, the 3D "Metroid" games are an abomination to the video game world and should rot in the same desert that the "E.T." games are rotting in! What "Metroid" does is really cool as it takes the preconceived notion of having a macho space fighter blasting away millions of aliens in sight, and at the end, revealing the macho space fighter to be a woman! :!: "Metroid II" picks up right where the N.E.S. original leaves off. Samus travels to the home planet of the Metroids on a search and destroy mission, determined to send every last Metroid to the great beyond. Although this is a relatively early Game boy video game, it manages to do a really good job of transferring the good 8-bit graphics, sound music, atmosphere, challenge, exploration, and item collection to the portable video game system. :) Despite the good points of the video game however, there are two significant down points that prevent the game from being perfect; there is no in-game video game map, meaning that player's either have to memorize the layout of the game as they go along, or draw their own manual map so that they can remember where they have been. The second downfall is that there is no real additional game play value to be had after beating the game, which makes repeated playings of the game kind of pointless. :( But when it comes to the blueprint of what good "Metroid" games can be, this does a pretty good job of nailing down most of the good parts! :D I highly enjoyed it, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun retro gaming blast from the past! 8) Enough said! ;)
