I’m new to the world of Metal slug. I have heard of it but I never really got the chance to play it. A game that’s like contra but with added silliness and insane weapons sign me up!! But it makes me quite mad when this game will be wrote off by others. Since it doesn’t have “awesome graphics, deep storyline etc.” Back when arcades were huge, people played for fun nothing more and nothing less. But the game has just hooked me so where I could just go on all day about it except I will just get to the core of it. Game play: This game has so much fun that it will keep you playing and wont let you go. It’s just so fun making a bunch of cowardly soldiers, evil crab thingamabobs, zombies and other such enemies eat massive amounts of bullets. While on the foot portion of this game you could easily say “CONTRA CLONE MAN!” which may be true in some cases. The game adds some nice flavor with extremely bizarre weapons. Guns like the iron lizard which shoot out….well iron lizards that explode on impact. Then some gun that shoots shrapnel balls of destruction which to me look like balls of jelly….maybe im just weird. Anyway the game also has your basics……machine guns, shotguns, laser guns, grenade launchers etc. But the sad bit is you start out with a pistol. You find these super guns by killing certain enemies or freeing POW’s. Which they give them to you out of their own pants *don’t ask* which is humorous in itself. But that’s not all you have 10 vehicles at your use to deal out more and powerful death. Such as tanks, little submarines, Jet’s, a walking robo slug which shoots out a huge chain gun out of one arm and shoots cannons out of the other and….CAMELS WITH GUNS! That’s right you read correctly. All and all the game play just keeps you coming back for more. The only gripe I have is the continue system, when you die you start at beginning of the level. Which I understand makes it harder it just gets me mad when I have to do the level the 10th time. Graphics: The graphics aren’t extremely as good lets say modern games of today. But that’s because metal slug 3 is a Classic 2D shooter. But the graphics have their own special charm that make you smile. Especially all the animations for the characters, enemies and such. Like for example: when you die by one of mordens green garb wearing soldiers, they point and laugh at you. But when you return they yell in fear and run like hell, its really amusing. But the graphics look good to me I just love the style and cartoonish edge it has. Sound: Well nothing extremely special here. The music is pretty good but nothing you will remember from 30 years to now or anything. The voices are pretty bare bones basic too but nothing that will annoy you. But I will say the music on the 2nd level had me banging my head the riff was just so catchy I couldn’t help by rock out to it. Control: Again pretty basic just the control stick to move across the screen. A button to jump, a button to shoot, a button to throw grenades and finally when your in a slug (vehicle) press L and A together to pretty much eject but causing the enemy damage….that’s pretty much it. Story: Story there is no story here! (sort of) in the instruction manual from what I heard there is like a 4 page telling the story (from what I heard I only rented this game, plan to buy it soon) but yeah there’s basically no story just running and gunning my friend. Bottom line: If you want a pure fun game to play by yourself or with a friend then by all means pick this up. The game will seem unforgiving given the difficulty but you will want to keep playing. That’s the beauty of it, no matter how much you have to get your butt handed to you, you will still want to play and you will have a fantastic time in the process.
This is a game I rented after playing a few versions of it in an arcade, and it's just as good except you don't have to put a quarter in every second. I play it with my friend and it is amazingly fun. You just go around ... Read Full Review
