Like beating a dead horse...
Last year was the first MegamanX (X7)game for PS2. I thought it was a pretty OK game; nice graphics, the 3-D environments were something different.
I figured I would for sure end up getting Megaman X8 one day, and today is that day. Now, I normally never give a rewiew without giving a game a fair chance, but Megaman X8 will be an exception.
Where should I start? Hmm...lets go with "This Game Is Intensely Frustrating".
Dont get me wrong here, im up for a good challenge in a game, but when a game presents annoying, stupid little challenges in a specific area, that are totally drawn out, and are hard because of the games control.....thats where I draw the line.
Another thing, The game uses little scraps of metal that you pick up along the course of the game as currency used to upgrade your characters. If your like me, or probably lots of other players, about 10 minutes into this game, there is an easy way to leave a rubber band or something pressed down on the Shoot button to get a pretty much unlimited source of "income", and its very easy to stumble upon, you will almost find it undeliberately.
And for example, there is one level that u are flying around in a 3-D environment trying to follow and shoot an enemy. The only way to keep up is to collect orbs to give you boost and catch him, but they are really hard to collect. Even if you do catch him, there is no targeting and your basically shooting blindly and hoping to hit him. Wait, it gets better....after about 5 minutes of following him, OUT OF NOWHERE, you just die......thats it, for no reason, DEAD. And another level that your sliding down a hill in a 3rd person view that drags on and on, and is THE ENTIRE LEVEL....This is Megaman !! This game is trying to be something its not,
Did the programmers of this game have anyone test it when they thought they were done making it ? Every megaman game ive ever played have an enjoyable amount of challenge, this game is ridiculous and frustrating. Oh yeah, and alot of slow frame rates. And the classis HORRID voice overs.
Im also being hard on this game because its Megaman, and it seems Capcom is just trying to commit suicide on him. I cant even think of all the negatives of this game. But if you want some positives....just take any good thing you've seen in other megaman games and apply it to this one.
If your a megaman fan, Dont Buy This....Hell, dont even rent it! Maybe if you just want to get it to have it in your collection i guess ?
