User Rating: 8.6 | RockMan X Command Mission GC
Ever since the gamecube came out I have been waiting for a good megaman game. When Battle Network came out for Gamecube I was really dissapointed with it, but Megaman X: Command Mission really caught my eye when I saw it at the store shelf, and for only 49.99 which is quite cheap compared to other games, and as a huge Megaman fan this game had to be in my collection. This RPG is a great start for the Megaman series. There is a bit of a difference between the PS2 and the GC version of Megaman X: Command Mission. The GC one can get a sort of money called "treasure tokens" used to buy special items with. The PS2 version comes with an exclusive demo of Megaman X8 which is coming out in November I might add. Rumor has also informed me that the Gamecube version is much harder then that of the Play Station 2. So if you are looking for a more challenging game and you have both a Gamecube and a Playstation 2 then I suggest you go for the Gamecube one. Megaman X: Command Mission is like the normal turned-based RPG, but it has a few twists in its battle system. We are now introduced to new elements in this battle system. Megaman and his friends have "sub-weapons" that they can use followed by the standard attack. They may also use a powerful move if they have enough weapon energy (X can charge his gun up, Zero can do a combo with his sword etc.) in which most of these moves need to have certain buttom combos in a limited ammount of time. A very interesting feature is the Hyper Modes which give X and his comrades a great boost in strength, however it lasts only for a short time. The most overwhelming move (and some may even call cheap) is the Final Strike, which is enabled when you get an enemy to 25% of their health or lower. This move lets all of X's group go on a frenzy of attacks to do massive damage to the enemy. This could be very useful in boss battles. Not many elements from the other Megaman games were brought into this one sadly. The only element brought back was the dash which can be used to run faster or break crystals for items. I was however dissapointed at the fact that X could not take the power of the bosses after he defeated them, the biggest megaman tradition thrown into the garbage can. Exploring with Megaman can make great times. The scenery of the levels look so well done for a cel-shaded game that I run through levels to just look at them sometimes. The sounds and music in the game had room for improvement. the sounds suited the environment that they were in, but the music didn't catch me like the other megaman games. The only tune I ever really liked was the boss battle tune. The music just didn't have enough life to it. This game is worth hours of fun, but it is very short for an rpg. With a playtime of 17-25 hours in my opinion is quite short, and with a cost of 49.99 you might not be able to fit this game into your wallet. I myself am currently at 20:31 in play time and still enjoying it. If you are not a huge fan of the Megaman series I would suggest another game. Hardcore Megaman fans are the ones that will enjoy this game the most.
