Why do people whine about not getting enough "extra" content? I mean, the developers didn't HAVE to give you any.

User Rating: 9 | Mega Man X Collection PS2
This is going to be my shortest review, ever.

I've had this little review planned out in my head for the past couple of days now, and considering the information that has come to light concerning the extras and changes that were nixed by Capcom of Japan because they feared that giving the X Collection TOO many features would hurt the sales of their Irregular Hunter X remakes that will be featured on the PSP, the sheer lunacy of this idea aside [hell, the first one isn't even out in America yet...and the second one won't be until next year... and that still leaves 4 games left...] I'm not going to knock my score of the MMXC because of what it *could* have been. I'm just reviewing what it *is*.

And what is it? Well, it's every Mega Man X game up to X6. All on one PS2 disc. That in and of itself is pretty damn sweet, extras aside. As for the changes that *were* implemented...

We have the PSOne version of X3, so it features remixed music and anime scenes. The gameplay for all three SNES titles is much faster in general. Capcom seemed to be able to get rid of nearly all instances of slow-down in these titles.

X4, 5, and 6 remain virtually untouched, except that they've taken the Japanese voice acting OUT of X6, which I'm not to fond of, but I'll live.

That's really the only bad thing I have to say about the collection. The game select screen mimics the level select screen of previous X games, complete with the level select music. Which in a Mega Man game is much more appropriate than a platforming based game selection format. There's some extra artwork to unlock and the bonus game in this collection is the PSOne Kart racer, Mega Man Battle and Chase which has not been released in America previously.

This is what it is. A collection of the first 6 X games, with the added bonus of Battle and Chase. Sure, they *could* have given the collection more extra features... but that's just adding superfluous content, it would be nice but's it's not required to accomplish the goal set by this particular title.

The goal is to give you 6 X games all in one place. They've done that. If having Battle and Chase isn't enough "extra" for you, then that's your problem.
