Mega Man 9 is a great blast from the past with a fantastic retro style.

Phew, I just, minutes ago beat Mega Man 9, and it wasn't easy to put it mildly, this is probably the hardest game I've ever completed along with Castlevania: Rondo of Blood. But I've said it before, and I'll say it again, the feeling after finishing a Mega Man game, or any other superhard game, it's amazing. I got the game about five months ago, I got to the shifting blobs boss, a boss that is similar to the Yellow Devil, and I gave up, I couldn't beat him without using too many energy tanks, and you can't buy more without quitting the stage, but then you have to start from the beginning of the castle. The difficulty, it's brutal. I know some have stated that it isn't any more or less difficult than the average Mega Man NES game, I disagree, I find this to be a lot harder than MM1, 2, 3, 4 and 10. I haven't played 5 and 6 yet. It is truly fustrating at points and demands excellent reactions.

The robot masters are excellent, from Splash Woman to Plug Man, even with the right weapon they can put up a fight, no one goes down with just one hit. The levels are great in design and have death traps all over. Yeah, there are cheap deaths present, the developers are laughing their rear end off at the robot that swoops down, grabs you and throws you into spikes, killing you instantly before you know what the hell happened. But playing through the stages again and again and again and again is worth doing, and sometimes I didn't even mind. Why? Because the music is so awesome, I can't even tell you, go to YouTube and listen to some of the stage themes, my favorite being the first Dr. Wily stage, that's awesome right there.

Mega Man 9 is an absolutely brutal, but oh, so satisfying game when you finally start getting good at it. Look, I'm a slightly above average skilled gamer, all it takes is practice and then you'll be able to take down Dr. Wily. But however, if it's too much for you, check out Mega Man 10, which has an easy mode.
