One of the best RPG's ever

User Rating: 9 | Mass Effect 2 X360
ME2 builds on the 1st game, fixing all the problems and adding loads of new improvements to the core gameplay and to the storytelling. For anybody who doesn't know Mass Effect is, its a series set in the future, technology got advanced massively on the discovery of mass relays. The mass relays are like portals to other relay systems. You are commander shepard and you are tasked to save the world from the 'reapers'. A foe that want to wipe your whole race out. I won't get into too much detail otherwhys i'd ruin it for you. If you haven't played mass effect before then you have to start with the 1st game, and not skip to the 2nd or 3rd.

The story in this game is stellar. Ok, the whole setup is a little unoriginal and cliche but you must get past that and see how amazing this game is. Like in the 1st game, every decision you make changes the way the game plays, nobody will have the same experience. There are so many different characters in this game and the way you interact with them is completely up too you. You have choices over the deaths of certain characters, your choices in the 1st game effect the 2nd game, your choices in the second have changes on the 3rd. You could have a relationship with a certain character, or you could choose to be unfriendly towards them. There are many different ways to go about interacting with characters.

The combat has been seriously improved in this game. Whereas in ME1 the cover system was buggy and very unconventional, it is now almost perfect. A little like Gears of War.. You can use many different weapons and powers and ammo powers. As you level up you can add points to different attributes and biotic powers. You also can upgrade the characters in the squad however you like.

The missions in this game are second to none. You are constantly doing different things in different enviroments. There is also alot of content in this game. I'd say a standard playthrough would be about 20hrs but add another 15hrs ot complete everything.

But there are problems with this game. Although the missions are varied, the mission structure for the most part of the game is exactly the same. For the biggest chunk of the game your recruiting your squad, for every mission when your recruiting, you find the person, do them a favour and then there on your squad. Then, to make them loyal, you do 1 side quest for them. The missions are varied, but the structure isn't. Another thing is that this game feels too confined for an RPG. There is almost no possibility for exploration, and it is made pointless to do so anyway. There are also some minor bugs like texture pop-ins and dialogue glitches but there nothing too be worried about.

Overall, ME2 is a great game. The story and the way you interact with characters is the best in gaming ever. It is truly great to play this game, it's like playing a book. If you haven't played mass effect yet, then stop what your doing, and go buy ME1.
