A cute little game with a good mix of puzzling and platforming

User Rating: 8.3 | Mario vs. Donkey Kong GBA
The premise is simple, Donkey-kong steals some Mario toys, Mario has to get them back.

As mario your goal is to rescue one toy per level, then on level 6 you have to lead them to the toybox in what could be described as a faster-paced version of lemmings. Then you have to defeat Donkey-kong in battle. Your health depends on how many toys you saved. You do this for a couple of worlds.

Levels contain enemies like shyguys and bobombs and weird tambourine bashing monkeys. There are no powerups for Mario apart from his hammer, but he can do a handstand and a handstand-jump which allows him to jump higher. There are also coloured switches to stand on which "turn on" coloured blocks. There are moving platforms, trampoline-type springs, and various platform type elements. But once the correct path through a level has been worked out, it should be pretty easy. This creates a good blend of puzzle/platform.

The difficulty steps up significantly throughout the game. It can border on the extremely frustating especially as you get so far then fall onto a pile of spikes. I've never been one to throw my DS, however.
Thankfully there are little hint movies before each level. For the hard-core players out there, you can skip these by pressing B.

Graphics are nice and cute, nothing outstanding, but they do not need to be.
Sounds. Some of the sounds can get annoying. Catchy music. Annoying Mario voice (after a while). The toy mario sounds are really cute.

Nothing amazing here, but it is not bad either. A nice game with a decent amount of conent.
