You must think before getting this game.
First of, the intro of the game: it's funny, and show everything you would expect from a Mario Kart Game.
Then, you're off to make you driver license, where you can choose your mii and see you record and tournament results.
SINGLEPLAYER
Yeah, sure, wasn't it the star of the past Mario Karts? (well, for me, it was) But in mario kart wii, it's a complete letdown. It's the classic 50cc, 100cc & 150cc (not counting mirror), and the less cc, the cpu gets easier. But the enemy AI is a joke.
First off, I still remember how many POW blocks and blue shell hit me in the FIRST RACE. (5 POWs, 3 blue shells) Its very frustrating.
also, every time you get a bit far from the enemy in 2nd place, you WILL get blushell'd. Because of this, you are going to loss many races to come, in the last lap, near the finish line.
And, I STILL talking about the 50cc. When you don't get hit by a item, for some god-forsaken reason, the race gets too easy!!!
The 100cc is a bike only tournament.There, the AI start getting cheap. I struggled to beat it, there will be many instances you get hit by a red shell, followed by a blue shell, followed by a blooper, followed by a thunder, followed by you falling down a pit. All of this togheter takes about 15 seconds to end. As soon as you regain consience, you're in last place! That would not be a problem, if you were at the second lap, but what if you were at the last one?!? Nothing of this would happen if the AI was better and the itens less overpowered!!!
The 150cc and Mirror are the same bloody thing, except that the mirror one explains itself, the courses get mirrored.
Now you can choose both bikes and karts, making it look a lot like Multiplayer.
The enemy AI gets insane, combo this with the fact that the cars got very fast, will leave hours of frustration to come.
In mirror, well, I already said that it's the same thing as the 150cc, but I only got one complain about it: WHY DOES IT EXISTS, ANYWAY.
Not only you get the speed of the last tournament and it's insane AI, but the courses look entirely different!!!
I only recommend you to play Mirror after you COMPLETELY FORGOT all the courses, it gets confuing as hell.
MULTIPLAYER
It's the only reason it didn't throw it away the sewers. It's the best wii game online. You rarely will encounter lag, and it's very addictive. You can literary play until your hands bleed and your Wii catches fire. But no matter how good it is, it still got its downsides.
First, the major complain of all Wii games online: Hackers
Hackers on Mario Kart Wii existed since the game's realese.
Or they only want to win the race quickly, or grief everybody around'em. It always start like this: You enter in a Game, The race start, and before the countdown even drops to zero, He start throwing Things on everybody.
There's also one kind of hackerwich does nothing at the race at all.But in the final lap, as soon as he spots the 1st place, he starts throwing all kind of things on him. I will never forget when this happened to me...
Second: the points system.
It's one of the worst point systems I ever saw, if you can even call it one.
I think they tried to do it like this: depend how many points the people in front of you or behind you have, you will get more or less points. But it's not like this. I remember one day I finished in Second place. Good, Right? The guy in front of me had something like 6000 points,and I had 7000. And guess what? I LOST 100 POINTS.There were 12 racers on that race, and everyone was beetween 7000-8000. There was also one race I finished at 7/12. Everyone on this room was 9000+ ( me included) And i lost nearly 300 points!!!
Other than those problems, it's the only reason why you shall buy this.
GRAPHICS
Excellent. All the backgrounds are nice, the tracks are very detailed, and overall very Mario-ish.It's one of the best looking wii games so far. They are so eye pleasing that get distracting. A very good example of this is daisy circuit, the sea the statues, the buldings and pretty much everything on this course is made to distract you.
GAMEPLAY
Another good thing about Kart wii its the gameplay. Its very neat that nintendo let youl use all kinds of ways to drive: You can use the Wii Remote, the Wii remote+Nunchuk, Classic Controller and the Game Cube controller. The controller is very responsive, you really feel you are driving a car. But your hands are going to get tired very quickly.
OVERALL
It sure is the worst Mario Kart Game to date and if you can connect your Wii to the internet there is almost no reason to play Singleplayer, the only reason you would play it it's to unlock all the characters and vehicles and get Stars near you name. It has good gameplay and graphics, so anyone can pick it up and play it with no problem, but if you are short tempered, stay as far as you can from this game.
