Fun for short bursts of time, but not as much as anticipated. Fans of the simulator genre may appreciate it more than I.

User Rating: 7 | Mainichi Issho PS3
Mainichi Issho is an online-only interface for the PS3. It has several fun features that will, at first, eat a lot of your free time!

Though Mainichi Issho is called a game, I wouldn't necessarily put it in that category except for the fact that it features (at the time of this review) two modes of online gaming. As above, I stated Mainichi Issho is online-only. That is to say, you cannot access the game unless you are connected to the internet.

The actual game parts are rather fun, pitting your "nyabataa" ; against those of other online players. Your nyabataa (a play on the Japanese idea of a cat's pronunciation of "avatar") is now customisable and you can earn items of clothing and accessories ... as well as more that I won't go into detail here.

The games are generally speed-based and they are of the I.Q. theme, though "theme" is heavily emphasised here. That's because you don't have to be a genius to beat people; the games are all pretty easy. You just have to be quick. One example of the games is the "money race" where you are shown a number, as well as a selection of piles of coins. Simply choose the pile of coins that matches the number before your opponent does! One variation is the reverse: you are shown a pile of coins along with a selection of numbers ... just choose the number that corresponds to the sum of the value of the coins in the pile. Of course, there are a few other games, such as jan-ken, but I think you get the idea.

Most of what you see and do in Mainichi Issho revolves around Toro, the white cat you see on all the adverts. He is actually quite charming and peculiar. If you leave the game idle, he will play video games, practice cartwheels, talk on the phone and so on. It seems that there is a bit of randomness and variety with different people's games, since (according to my friend) my game has Toro going to the fridge to drink strawberry milk quite often, followed by his untimely yet frequent trips to washroom! I cannot confirm the variety/randomness thing, however, though it does seem as though my friend's game has less of the milk-then-washroom thing going on!

Mainichi Issho is updated every day (yes every day!) with new "torokuro" news. This is a goodly sized portion of the "replay" value of this game. Toro's neighbour is a black cat named Kuro (how original!). Together (or sometimes separately, if one of them is on location), they present you with interesting "news" features that vary greatly. So far, everything from PS3 games (surprise!) to cooking and beer-making has been covered. My favourite was the one where they re-enact their favourite scenes from NinjaGaiden Sigma ... humourous and cute. The one about ghosts wasn't bad either, but it scares their pink bunny friend when they talk about that stuffs.

Toro's apartment is customisable, and you can win a lot of items, as well as in-game money called "myaille" (I'll let you figure that one out ^^ ). You can purchase many items like wallpaper, furniture, costumes, and food with in-game money, though you are often "invited" to purchase the really cool stuffs with real money. I don't see the draw to this, but I think some people really like "sims" type gameplay and this is probably perfect for those people.

Over-all, Mainichi Issho is fun, but it loses steam rather quickly. Since the game is free to play, it stays with a modest score of 7.0 out of a possible 10.0
