Right off the bat I suggest you try the demo first. This games playstyle is not for everyone.

I have been playing magic since 1993 and love the original Microprose Duels of the Planeswalkers. Imho there is no better card game. When I heard about this I figured they were finally bringing something similar to modern hardware. Then the info on this was revealed and I figured O.K. no Shandalar but it sounds like the basis for a fun mtg based game was there. Then this was released. I woke up at 9 A.M. and figured I'd try to see if it was available. Didn't get it till 8 P.M. because of the MS server snafu.

I do consider it worth the wait but ONLY because it was 800 MS Points which is $10 U.S. The A.I. is pretty decent for single player and I like the card selection. They chose a nice array of cards to simulate each colors strengths. They even brought out some non type 2 classics such as Sengir and Royal Assassin. Honestly don't remember if those are in X edition. The play is straightforward mtg matches with some nice visual flair.

You choose your deck and then play an opponent either via A.I. or online against a human. Deck selections are pretty decent. It seems the devs did a pretty decent job of card selection and deck building. this leads into my biggest gripe. You CANNOT edit your decks. Maybe it is something when everything is unlocked but as it stands all you can do is add in or take out your unlocked cards. The base deck will ALWAYS be a part of your deck.

My green mean deck is 80 cards with everything in it. I would take it down to 60 if I could remove cards from the base green deck. If I payed more than 800 MS points I would be demanding a refund because of this. It's not really a mtg game if you can't build your own decks. Considering it is an arcade style game it is acceptable.

Bottom line is it is a fun romp for the price. There is enough here to satisfy a casual players need to play an A.I. or have a more balanced match against an online opponent.

Usually I am more coherent but my brain is exhausted from playing Duels for the past 5 hours.
