Has some nice qualities, but the total package is not that impressive.

I used to be really fascinated with the mafia, and how they were portrayed in entertainment, I never wanted to be a part of the mafia, let's just get that clear and this game didn't kill my interest in the subject, it's just that I seem to be getting older, more cynical and negative, unfortunately and a lot of the things I used to love or be interested in, those things are fading away. But anyway, I did play the first Mafia...on the PS2, yeah, I know, but the story grabbed me, and The Godfather: Blackhand Edition was really fun and a great game, too bad the second Godfather game sucked and, apart from being one of the most disappointing games I've ever played, it's also one of the worst, absolutely boring and dreadful. Mafia 2 is absolutely better, but it doesn't come together in the end to be a truly classic, classy package. The story isn't that interesting this time around, maybe that's just me though, awful ending, I actually preferred the ending in the first game, though I am aware that a lot of people hated it, here it's just abrupt and lame. You don't really feel that much like a part of the mafia, you're just running around doing whatever often dull task they ask you to carry out, often involving mindless driving. But there are some fun missions here, and the shooting can be entertaining, other times annoying. No missions really stand out to be honest as being completely memorable.

But the game can sometimes impress due to the graphics so that you can take in some nice scenery while running around and whatnot. The weather varies from sunny, to rainy to snowy, there's even a section of the game taking place within a prison, it's not very good, but at least it's different. Graphical glitches were plentiful, but only one or maybe two forced me to restart from the last checkpoint, and some missions late in the game had me dying quite often and forced me to replay long sections due to inconsistt checkpoints. The AI was at times awful, useless and mindless, running straight into walls and keep on running, that was a fun if pathetic sight. The game is not that long, and there's not much to do in the city, but actually the brief length, in comparison to other games in the genre mind you, is not a problem as the game is not that great. It's decent, has a few cool moments but this is one you could rent or skip easily, not a disaster like The Godfather 2 but still a tad disappointing.
