User Rating: 6.8 | Madden NFL 2005 XBOX
This is the second year I have bought ESPN football and the third year I have bought Madden for the XBOX. I have played Madden for years (ever since the original came out), so I know how the series has evolved since its inception. This year's Madden seems to have taken a step back in time. The graphics on the cut scenes are somewhat of a regurgitation of prior years' editions. The play mechanics are same-old Madden. The only things new that I saw were a couple of tweaks to the game play, and the addition of some lame-ass fan animations. The menu system has changed, and looks a little sharper, but that's about all. VERY disappointing job to EA sports. They have rested on their asses long enough, and I think those people who compare ESPN to this product will see that ESPN has an advantage. . .regardless of price point. The quality of this year's gameplay graphics seems to have gotten worse. It looks like I'm using toy soldiers on the field. That tweak alone makes Madden look like an antiquated PS1-level game rather than ESPN's good looking graphics. I've been a Madden fan since the beginning, but ESPN has won me over. The crib, the gameplay, the fun. It's the whole package, and less than half the price of this lame duck. Do yourself a favor, rent both, and buy ESPN once you realize it's the real deal. Unless EA Sports comes to the table with a much-improved product, I'm going to have to turn in my Madden T-shirt for a new brand.
