Machinarium is "Amanita Design's" next top amazing artistic design point an click adventure game.Although we've seen a lot of point and click games over the years this one strikes you with it's originality ingenuity and beautifully drawn environments. One of it's unique characteristics is the ability to tell a story without saying a single "understandable" word, and it doesn't need to the scenarios are so well organised the gameplay is so simple and the videos put it all together just right.
THE GAMEPLAY. There isn't much to say about the gameplay really standard mouse browsing, no flashy mouse cursor this time when pointing to an interactive object witch makes the game a little harder to figure out.The hud display is very poor in options but it is placed so clever it gives you the sensation that it is part of your inventory. The hint system is a bit different that we've seen there are two types of help:by pressing the lamp icon we have the "indirect" hint that shows us what our hero robot is thinking or better said his ideas, second comes the book icon witch shows you a "direct" walkthrough of that scenario.
THE STORY. This particular feature makes a lot for the game's charisma. You take the role of a sweet little robot in a quest to save your sweetheart and the town's tower from blowing up. It is not so different comparing it to other plots but it grows on you and the magic of it all is that it is presented through animated sketches and not a single word. The purpose of the game is progression by being resourceful and clever enough to pass those challenging puzzles.
THE GOOD. At first it attracts you with top of the line artistic visuals then suck you in with various tasks that are needed to be performed in order to reach your goal. The complexity of the main character makes it a very much alive human resembling being.
THE BAD. Even if the environment is rich in details you don't get to interact with a lot of it and when you encounter a puzzle you get little information on how to solve it.
CONCLUSION. Generally good game well balanced between mentally challenging and fun factor with a drop of mixed feelings towards various characters. The experience it delivers totally deserves all it's 10$ maybe even more.
