A great game with one fatal flaw.

User Rating: 8 | Mabinogi PC
Overall, Mabinogi is a very good game. It has a wide array of skills, many quests, and, unless you use a guide, it feels very realistic because you have to find out everything yourself.

Its features include pets which can join you in battle and be ridden, combat skills ranging from shooting five arrows in rapid succession to teleporting to a monster then attacking it, magics in three different elements, and non-combat skills which allow you to create armor or play stat boosting music.
All of these skills are extremely easy to level, some take only minutes of training to max while the hardest take no more than a few hours at top levels.

At this point an observant reader might wonder why I have rated this game as "Very Hard." I have two reasons for this.
Combat depends almost entirely on strategy and changes greatly for each monster, this make it very difficult to fight monsters. A faulty system for determining monster strength as opposed to your character's makes it even harder, a monster rated as a "Boss" a walk in the park while a "Weak" monster might kill you in three hits. To make fighting monsters even more difficult, you will be constantly surrounded by the least honorable and rudest gaming community that I have ever seen. EVERY single time that I have fought a powerful monster for a quest (not even field bosses, but a monster that is only killed one time for one quest and otherwise there is no reason for anyone to hunt it) some jackass has come in at the last minute of my 15-20 minute long battle and scored the last hit just to be a bastard (Mabinogi has a system that gives the last hit all the credit even if the last person to hit only took away 9 of 5000 health).

My second reason is how hard it is to max your skills, yeah, they take a few minutes to train, but then you need to use AP to level them up. You get 2-5 AP for aging (which happens once a week) and 1 AP for leveling up. As skills reach higher levels you will need about 40 AP to level it once. Because of this all of my skills are constantly trained to the point where I can level them, but ,because I lack AP, I can't.

As for their paying options (3 options for $10 each or a combination of the three for $15 a month), they are a complete rip off. Membership allows you to have more bank space, lead a guild, gives you a special revival option when you die, and makes you randomly receive items.Considering you will be spending most of your time waiting to rebirth so you can earn AP, you wont be getting your moneys worth. Most of the bonuses can easily be replaced by cheaper methods, purchasing pets (a one time fee of 2-12 dollars depending on the pet) can take care of extra storage, making another account and avoiding leveling it 30 times allows you to lead and maintain a guild, not dying prevents any need for the death support, and you can buy any special items from other players for low prices. Membership is not even required to do mainstream quests or any other major game content making the paying option even more of a rip off.

This could be a great game, but the inability to level up faster then their allowed rate makes this game a 7.0.
