Worth the buy

User Rating: 8 | Lumines II PSP
Having not bought Lumines when it was released, I bought Lumines II, the sequel, instead. When I started playing the game, it is like being transported back to the old times of "Tetris", with an exception: A major improvement and new varying styles of gameplay. In Tetris, you clear line by line, and of course, clear lines in one go for more points. In this game, you clear blocks of four, as a time-line sweeps through the screen from left to right. It is pure fun combining blocks after blocks, and watching the time-line sweep through all of them to give you high points.

The soundtrack in the background is a difference, with some popular songs by Gwen Stefanie and the Black Eyed Peas. However, I find that it does not fit into the game very well, since the focus is on the gameplay, and there is barely time or space to enjoy the songs. To me, simple songs would have been enough. Hence, investing on the soundtrack did not seem to improve the game that much.

Besides, you can play against the CPU, go for different puzzles, and engage in the time-mode. With these modes available, it brings variety into the game.

As such, Lumines II is an excellent puzzle game. Although not an avid fan of puzzle games, this game offers immense pleasure, and is worth purchasing.
