Wow. I can't believe that GameSpot gave Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon a 6.5 out of 10. At least IGN gave it a 9.3. Anyways, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon is a sequel to the original Luigi's Mansion from their GameCube release in 2001. As a result, the addition of multiplayer, download play, and online mode makes this game an easy recommendation for most 3DS owners.

Presentation - Do you remember Professor E Gadd aka football head from the original Luigi's Mansion? He's back and takes care of the dark moon shard and studies about ghosts for 12 years. This time around, King Boo joins the ghost party to destroy the moon shard. Professor E Gadd calls on his friend, Luigi to help save the moon shard and enter a total of five mansions. Like the original, Mario gets trapped in a portrait again. The ghosts (enemies) are all different, and you'll run up across an array of them including a ghost dog (Shigeru Miyamoto's favorite ghost created).

There are a total of three save files for you and your friends to store data. The only way to save is to complete all missions in a particular chapter. This means that if you exit in a middle of the game, you have to start over again from the last chapter. The story mode is pretty lengthy, and may take you a while to complete.

Graphics - The graphics look very amazing and surprisingly almost realistic. I don't actually pay attention to the 3D effect, so I don't know how much the visuals pop up. There are also no signs of glitches and frame rate issues. The animations are some of the best on the 3DS with Luigi tip-toeing and his facial expressions convey his fear of ghosts in general and humor as well.

Sound - The theme music from the original Luigi's Mansion has been tweaked to speed up the pace, but at the time sounds quite similar. The speed paces up when Professor E Gadd calls Luigi on his Nintendo DS (like a cell phone). There are also occasional piano sounds which really make Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon sound more haunted and spooky.

Game play - If you played the original game or even watched Ghostbusters 1 and 2, you'll feel welcome with the similar controls. This time the way to catch ghosts is to press the R and analog stick buttons at the same time. You can also use flash lights and use the vacuum cleaner to suck up all of the cash and coins you can find. The controls are accurate and responsive.

Lasting appeal - Aside from the single player story mode, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon also features local play, download play, and even online multiplayer. I never actually expected this game to feature online play, so I was quite surprised when I first saw Carolyn Petit's review on GameSpot.

The Good - great sequel to the original Luigi's Mansion, excellent animation, music sounds haunted and spooky, controls are accurate and responsive, additional of multiplayer, download, and online play extend replay value
