An inspiration in Wii game design

User Rating: 7.5 | LostWinds WII
Lost Winds despite being extremely brief is a game that truly innovates with the Wii controller. Frontier has created a game that is both fun and unique, and is of an amazingly high caliber for a downloadable WiiWare title.

The first thing you notice are the beautiful graphics, very stylized but incredibly detailed. The game's environment exudes with vibrancy and color that is simply a joy to look at. But more impressive is that the environment does not remain static, it reacts to even the subtlest gestures you make using the wind. The grass sways, the trees bend, its simple yet effective.

The gameplay is a basic 2D platformer but with some unique twists that only could be accomplished with the Wii controller. The nunchuck controls the boy Toku, but he really can't do much. He gets help from a wind deity which you also control but with the Wii-mote. The two work in tandum to solve a number of clever puzzles through this 2-3 hour excursion.

But the game is over before you know it, and this is really the only major shortcoming. It's kinda just 1 level in what should be a 10 level game.

This is a very enjoyable game all in all, and is worth checking out for 10 dollars. Despite being short in length, it explores and innovates more than most Wii games and deserves attention in that respect.
