A game for an older audience that's disguised as a kid's game, LKS is a combination of a bunch of great gameplay ideas.

User Rating: 7.5 | Ousama Monogatari WII
Little King's Story isn't really a game for the younger audiences, even though it's marketed as such. This is one of those rare games that is released by a company that isn't that well-known, and ends up being an instant classic. While not possessing the best presentation, this game is a combination of some of the greatest elements of gameplay from a bunch of different games in a very intricate and enjoyable result.

GAMEPLAY - A lot of people will tell you that elements of games like Pikmin and Harvest Moon are found here. Being someone who has never played Harvest Moon, I can't speak to that. However, the Pikmin influences are almost immediately apparent after you start playing. Most of this game involves building and expanding your kingdom while adventuring with your citizens into the wild to claim land and bounty to raise money for yourself. There are a bunch of different classes of citizens also, and you'll find yourself not venturing out into the wild without at least a few different types following you. Between overcoming obstacles and defeating enemies, adventuring is a very fun aspect to this game. The pacing is also very interesting, as you're free to explore and progress as you see fit. This makes this game approachable for all ages and experience levels. Overall, this is a game that most can pickup and get the hang of in no time. I tend to think it's better-suited for teenagers and up, as the rating says, but I'm sure younger audiences can enjoy this also. - 8.5/10

STORY - There isn't really much of a story here. You play as a young king who is looking to expand your kingdom, and for whatever reason, your chief adviser is bent on world domination, and it's your job to achieve this. It's not told in a maniacal way, but more like a light-hearted kind of way. Nothing really special, but pretty good. - 6/10

GRAPHICS - The graphics take some getting used to. Everything is really bright and not easy on the eyes. You almost wonder, at first, if things will get better. No such luck. Definitely could have used improvement here. - 4.5/10

SOUND - This wasn't the highest budget game to come out, but for whatever reason they did well with the music. To save money they used famous classical tracks and overtures to set the mood. This actually works out really well, and not only does the music seem familiar, but it also sets the mood very well. This game does very well here. - 9/10

LENGTH/REPLAY VALUE - If you enjoyed Pikmin, you'll probably get a lot of value here. The city building and adventuring is a bit different, but otherwise fans of Pikmin should get a lot of time out of this game. I haven't finished this game yet, but it sounds like it's roughly as long as Pikmin 2. It's definitely one of those games that you can replay over and over again if you enjoyed it the first time around. - 8/10

BOTTOM LINE - Little King's Story is a lot like Pikmin, so if you enjoyed that game you'll probably enjoy this one. The graphics aren't as great, but the sound is arguably better. Puzzles are almost non-existent here, but this is made up by some fun adventuring sequences and city building progression. Both games are very like, but still a little different. This is definitely one of the sleeper hits for the Wii that shouldn't be passed up. A fun game for all ages and experience levels. - 7.5/10
