Streets of Rage + Legend of Zelda = Legend of Oasis

User Rating: 8.5 | The Story of Thor 2 SAT
Legend of Oasis (Known as Story of Thor 2 in Europe and Japan) is a top-view action RPG for the Sega Saturn, it's the prequel to a Genesis game called Beyond Oasis (Story of Thor). It's a mix of Streets of Rage and Legend of Zelda, actually the game was made by the company that made Streets of Rage, it has a top-down perspective, beat-em up features and annoying puzzles that keep increasing in difficulty as you go through the game.

Graphics - 7
Everything's more colorful and more detailed than in Beyond Oasis, those sword slashes are hypnotizing, and those huge bosses are just astounding. The anime cutscenes are average though, they could have put a bit more effort in them

Sound and music - 8
The music is completely amazing, beats Beyond Oasis and rivals or perhaps surpasses Seiken Densetsu 3 (SNES). The sound effects are worse but the music compensates.

Story - 5
The story is simple, too simple for an RPG, two armlets, giant ancient war, now a new hero and a villain wield those armlets of power, you need to go find the 6 spirits and go defeat the Silver Armlet wielder, Agito.

Gameplay and Controls - 9
This is where the game shines. You play as Leon, you can use quite a variety of weapons, they're all different from each other, a knife/short sword, a great sword/scimitar, a bow, a staff and bombs. You can also use your armlet to summon the spirits you acquire throughout the game, the armlet shoots a ball of energy that when colliding with a spirit's affinity, it'll summon it. (Fire summons Efreet, metal summons Brass..etc) The spirit has a mind of it's own and will attack and help you but you can also control it with the A button, you can make them do 3 different attacks/moves depending if you tap, double tap or push the button hard.
The spirit's AI sucks pretty much so you probably won't summon it just to help you around on it's own. This game also brings in an interesting difficulty system. You start the game as Rank 1, the best, with low HP, when you lose an amount of HP and you recover it, you'll rise on rank and your HP bar will increase. This means that if you're a bad player, you'll have more HP and it'll be easier, if you're a better player, you'll have less and it'll be harder.
There's also a 2nd Player mode, but the company hid it, you'll need to input a special button combination and a 2nd ghost player will fall from the sky. It shares your HP Bar, the reason they hid it was probably because the game becomes extremely easier and you can access parts your not supposed to yet (Example, you can put yourself on top of the 2nd player to reach higher ledges) also, if you're fed up with the 2nd player, you can input the code again and he'll die and vanish.
The puzzles and dungeons are harder than in Beyond Oasis but they shouldn't give you THAT much trouble.

Replay Value - 6.5
The game can be replayed many times, plus with the hidden 2nd player you can play it with your friends.

Result - 8.5
It is not that much of an improvement over Beyond Oasis but it's still an astounding game that I recommend to anyone who likes RPGs, puzzles and action games.
