Unique beat-em-up, definate classic.

User Rating: 8.5 | Spartan X NES
Graphics: Pretty casual for a game made in the mid-80s on the NES, but everything is made to a point where you can see what it is. So all in all, pretty decent.

Sound/Music: Well the sound is .. Amusing to say the least. When you kick, the character does a "Hi-yah!" noise that quirks your brow, whilist you punch he goes "Hnnh." They're not annoying, so that's a good part. When you die, it makes a springy "boing!" noise and when a boss kills you, they laugh. The best laugh is the midget boss' laugh. XD As for music, there's basically four or so tunes that play. The first is the game-start tune and is somewhat loud but short. The in-game music is quiet and not bad, just a simple Asian style song you'd expect from any Bruce Lee movie or something of the sort. There's the level-complete song which is also loud but short. Then at the very end is the "happy loveydovey ending" song while the main character rescues and hugs the kidnapped woman.

Difficulty: I would say the difficulty is about average to hard. Some of the bosses and even enemies are purely insane to beat. Main idea is to focus on their pattern of attack, and they'll be a piece of cake. No, literally!

Gameplay: You play as a karate-champ named Thomas off to rescue his girlfriend from the dastardly Mr. X and to do so, you must fight his minions along the way including men wearing purple suits that ... Hug you to attack. Then there's the knife throwing guy, then the little kids who jump on your head. Oh, and watch out for dragons and snakes. This is a side-scrolling action/platformer, but most of you reading this should already know that as I'm positive 90% of the people who have/had an NES has played this game at least once.

Controls: Common control setup for this type of game, except a couple of changes. You press up to jump, B to kick, and A to punch. you can punch or kick while you're crouched or jumping. Pretty simple.

Overall: Certainly a classic, yes, must give it that. It ain't the best nor is it the worst game I've played. Really it's all in the eye of the player. It takes a couple of levels to get the jist of it but becomes a breeze in no time. Being that there's no true ending to this game and you can play it over and over again, the time spent would be infinity, but I'll just rate that on about how long it'll take you to beat the whole game, which ranges from 15-20 minutes give or take.
