Kings Bounty; the kind of memorable game that sucks you in and opens up a whole new genre. At least that's what this game did for me back in 1991. I remember playing this on my friend's Genesis and seeing just how much fun it could be to build up an army of knights, peasants and mystical creatures, all at your disposal. Use them to conquer or defend territory, or search for the missing artifacts strewn throughout the land. In a way it was like a computer version of Risk, only with animation, sound and a story to follow along with (not to mention the medieval fantasy setting). Kings Bounty was one of the first strategy games I ever played and wouldn't be the last...not by a long shot. One of the things that made it so great was that, unlike other strategy games that have come along since, this one can easily be picked up and played by even a casual gamer. This isn't easy to do, nor is it common if you think about titles such as Civilization, Master of Orion, Galactic Civilizations and so forth. I had a lot of fun playing this game and am sure that it would still be a fun little title, even today.

Btw, if you're in the mood for a turn based strategy of this sort, and don't feel like shelling out any cash, head on over to wesnoth.org and download the completely free game Battle for Wesnoth. Thanks to the talented people who've contributed to the project you can enjoy the nostalgia of games like Kings Bounty without the need for emulators or old systems.
