Its difficulties might make you crazy but it's too lovable to get mad at.

User Rating: 7.5 | Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories PS2
This isn't the first Kingdom Hearts spin-off we got. Since the last main KH, Kingdom Hearts II. The series have taken another direction and instead of having Kingdom Hearts III. We have to wait numerous years and during this time. We get to play the spin-offs instead of the main games.

This KH spin off tells you where Sora left after the original Kingdom Hearts. This game is a remake of the original title of the GBA game, Kingdom Hearts: Memories.

It has some cool features added to the game and as I've read from the site, it was completely revamp from scratch.

Story:

After the original Kingdom Hearts, Sora's left with Donald and Goofy and they're searching for King Mickey and Sora's friend, Riku. You will enter a castle called Castle Oblivion where the trio know that they can get information on where their friends are. Instead of searching, they encounter an obstacle in the castle and their memories begin to fade as you progress from floor to floor.

Presentation:

As mention above, the game was revamped from scratch and there are new cut-scenes. They're good, no no... they're very good. But, you only see cut-scenes each floor you finish and it takes a lot of time too. Also they're out of place. meaning, you only encounter them when you don't want to. Especially before a save point.

The in-game segments are still the same as any Kingdom Hearts. The traditional way as always. a conversation pops out and you press X button to forward it. Nothing new here except for the cut-scenes.

Gameplay:

From the get go, the whole game is governed by cards. Not just gameplay wise. Story wise as well.

There are cards for explorations which have three colors. Red, Blue and Green.

There are cards for each floor's story for because each floor is a world that is in Sora's memories.

And finally, you have card battles.

Control:

Outside battles, you can build your own exploration by opening room after room and each card you have has a certain feature. Also, the most important thing, the menu where you can customize your character's cards for battle there, view new-acquired skills and journal.

Inside battles, battles aren't your typical Kingdom Hearts games where you attack enemies immediately. Here you have to be tactical because enemies are shown and when you encounter them, you're moved to another dimension for battles.

Battles:

Before writing anything, it's very challenging and hard. Maybe enemies can be overcome but bosses like (....) can a pain in the neck in many ways. And as you fight them, they gradually become stronger enemies which leads to frustration.

Cards:

You have varieties of cards that consist of weapons, magic, items, and tactical-like cards.

cards have numbers from 1 to 9 and you can combine them for larger number or stronger attacks or magic.

the weapons are the exact same as the original Kingdom Hearts, there is absolutely nothing new in the game.

magic cards are the same too. You have fire, thunder, blizzard, cure... etc.

item cards, however, have another use in this game and it's plain and simple. potion reloads attack cards. Ether reloads magic cards. And Elixir reloads both.

by far, this is the most complicated battle system I've ever seen in a Kingdom Hearts game. The bosses will give you hard time. Normal enemies sometimes are above average but most of the times they can be overcome.

Overall:

This game is great for fans. If you haven't played the main KH games you will not like this game but if you're interested in knowing what happened during the sequel and prequel then you came to the right game. It gives you more information than KH 358/2. You will introduced to new organization members and You will meet old friends.

* General PROs and CONs:

+ Challenging Battle System, bosses and enemies.
(-) Recycled maps and almost everything else.
+ You can build your own exploration.
(-) Cut-scenes are out of place.

Kingdom Hearts: RE chain of memories respectably get a
7.5 out of 10.
