An amazing sequel, despite it's short comings

User Rating: 9 | Kingdom Hearts II PS2
KIngdom Hearts 2 is the strange yet successful collaboration between Disney and Square Enix. It improves upon it's sequel immensely. But, loses a few things from the first that hurt it.

Story: You begin the game as Roxas this time, a young boy living in Twilight Town. Pretty quickly, you encounter a new kind of enemy known as a nobody. Don't worry, you get to play as Sora later on. I don't want to spoil anything. Overall, the story is as an engaging as the first. But some of the disney worlds feel like filler worlds.

Gameplay: Now for the juicy part. Many things have been improved. Such as the camera being controlled by the right thumb stick. Combat is basically the same. But, you now have actions called reaction commands, which allow you to perform certain actions on the enemy. In boss battles, when pressed at the correct time, allow you to pull off special moves on the boss. The downside to this is that reaction commands are easy to pull off and make battles easier. Yet, flashier. Another new edition are drive forms, which allow you to combine your power with a party member to become stronger. For example, the first form is valor. This allows you to wield two keyblades for double power. Again though, this makes combat easier. Also, attacks called limits are now introduced into the game. It lets you combination with a party member and perform sort of combination attacks with them. This helps in boss battles when you're in a tight spot. Magic still is in play. New spell such as magnet attract enemies to you and reflect basically allow you to reflect attacks back at opponents. Over all, gameplay improved, but made things much easier.

Graphics. Top notch, Facial expressions, character models and envirionnments are gorgeous and represent the worlds well. Unfortunately, there's not much to see due to the world's being more linear than the first.

Music: The songs are great to listen to. They never get repetitive. Battle music is intense and draws you in.

Overall: KIngdom Hearts 2 is an amazing game despite it's rather simplified difficulty. You'll have fun all the way and the story will keep you attached. Get this if you're a fan of the first, a regular rpg gamer or someone new to the rpg world.
