If you own a PSP and you've never played Kingdom Hearts but is desperate to try it, this game is the best way to start.

I gotta tell you, I never understood why the hype over the Kingdom Hearts franchise. I thought it was just another game that was worth killing your time. But then I curious when they released "Birth By Sleep" for the Playstation Portable.

When I got the game, I immediately starting playing with it. The opening (and cinematic) scene before you start the game is simply epic.

Hint: If it's your first time playing, make sure you don't play in "Beginners Mode" primarily for the fact that the "secret movie" won't be revealed after you've finished completing the three characters: Terra, Ventus and Aqua. Oh, and don't skip the introduction and much less the tutorials!

I'm telling you this because in MY case, when the tutorials started, I had trouble getting used to the controls (it's my first Kingdom Hearts game, but I'm sure you already noticed) and the camera really wasn't helping me. Now, the camera is not bad but sometimes it gets a little shaky when I'm kicking butt and running around and dodging like a mad cow. If you've played Kingdom Hearts before, the controls will be easy for you to control the moment you start using them. But if you're in my case, like I said above, it will be just a little frustrating at first.

In the end, gameplay is pretty good. Lots of keyblades, magic items and cool attacks for you to enjoy. A note for newbies is that these three characters has their own exclusive attacks, so it might feel a little strange (in terms of abilities and attacks) to get used to another character once you've finished with one.

A sad thing about this game is the repetition found in music. Some of the music is repeated when fighting against goons, unversed and even bosses. The environments found in this game are also, sadly, a little repetitive as well. You might get what I mean when you've finished playing with all three characters.

The game will not end fast but at the same time it will not end slowly. It might take a couple of days or weeks to complete the game if you're a slow gamer, like me.

Voice acting is pretty good. A small trivia is that Leonard Nimoy (Spock from the original Star Trek series) does the voice of the evil keyblade master, Xehanort and Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker from Star Wars) does the voice of Eraqus, master of Terra, Ventus and Aqua. Pretty cool, right?

Boss levels are pretty epic and the combat itself can be quite button mashing at times. You will lose during a boss battle, so yes, expect them to be very baddies in combat, especially the last ones.

Visuals are great, action scenes are epically awesome and the drama gets hotter every time you pass a world (or level, if you want to put it that way).

Overall, this is a must buy for all PSP owners. It does has its noticeable flaws but it won't stop the fun you will get when playing. And one thing is for sure, after playing this game, I stopped wondering why people talks so much about this franchise. You know why? 'Cause it's damn good, and I agree with them. ;)
