PS2's Halo
I had to, until i saw it on a used game shelve for 15 bucks. I picked it up and immediately started playing it. Its game play was something i had never experienced from a first person shooter. It took me an hour to beat the first level. I kept dieing... until i realized something
I had been de-skillified by halo. In the Halo type game, you just charge in and kill anything that moves. However, in Kill zone there involved a skill of taking cover. Then waiting for the right moment to fire. It took a while to get use to but eventually I was able to beat the game with some ease.
The weapons were diverse and well placed throughout the game. I especially liked the three weapon slots compared to halo's two. In the 3 you can have a
- Machinegun
- Rocket launcher / grenade launcher
- Open spot- usually a sniper or another machine gun
There was little music, but the voices were great
The story was gripping and full of plot twists... something not shown in a 1st person shooter in a long time
The multiplayer is something that i love. It takes a completely new approach to the game. First, you can have up to 16 bots. Where certain guns didn't play that big of a role in story (the shotgun) becomes essential here, along with anything that explodes
The reason why these weapons don't work well in story, is because there are many enemies, and the shotgun has a HUGE lag time between shots, making it only ideal for taking on someone one on one
The last thing that i liked was the four different classes of soldiers to select for story. It puts a brand new spin to the game each time you play a different level with a different persona
