A Game I'll never forget

User Rating: 10 | Killzone 2 PS3
In a nutshell, Killzone 2 is a perfect video game. The SIngle Player campaign will keep you busy for weeks, and the multiplayer mode might make you forget Call of Duty games for a while. The Sci-Fi theme and hardcore controls might be too much for some, but as for me, it tops Call of Duty MW2 in many areas.

One of those areas is graphics, sound and atmosphere. This game has the best atmosphere almost making you feel like the planet Helghan is real. Unique alien architecture really fleshes out the world. The single player campaign is really hard and even the most hardcore FPS fans will be screaming after each death. Trial and error is the only way to go, and plenty of patience. Trust me, this is the HARDEST FPS game ever! And it's long too, with plenty of variety in the amount of enemies and action set pieces.

Of course, the single player campaign isn' the star of the show here just like in COD MW2 even though Killzone's campaign is better than MW2's. The star of the show is the multiplayer mode, fully customizable to the player's tastes. Game modes and maps could be filtered out with ease, and what also separates this game from the COD games is the strategic elements of multiplayer. For instance, in COD games, you might have a favorite gun and use it often in all of the multiplayer maps. Not in Killzone 2. Most likely you'll have to switch from kit to kit, and gun to gun, depending on the situation. If you decide to play Warzone, and all game modes, then each online session splits up time between each of the 5 modes, and always spreading out the action in various parts of the very large multiplayer maps.

The kits are awesome in Killzone 2. The kits could be combined with perks and customized according to your playing style. And there might be a time where you need to pick the engineer kit to clear out a room with the shotgun. Or maybe you should use your sniper kit if enemies are held down deep into their headquarters. The multiplayer maps are amazing, even the ones available in the various map packs that have come out since the game's release. The maps are some of the best ever in an online multiplayer shooter.

Last but not least, gameplay. COD fans might find it hard to get used to, but I love the controls. The controls make it possible to feel the weight of the gun, and all that armor you have on makes you a bit stiffer than in other shooters like COD, Halo, Battlefield, FEAR, etc. Killzone 2 incorporates dead zones and heavy recoil when shooting. In COD or Halo, you move the cursor which represents your eyes. In Killzone 2, the cursor represents your arms, and each analog stick responds according to momentum. All in all, very realistic controls, making this a game without flaws. The only thing I could complain about is that it's probably too hard and frusterating, but hey, thats not a flaw. I also think some of the multiplayer game modes could be chaotic, but I don't have to play them all, and just like in COD games, I think Team Deathmatch is the best, known as Body Count in this game. If 32 people on one map is too much, then play with 24, or 17, 12, 8, 4 or even 1 on 1! Killzone 2 is the best game you could buy for $60. Play it!
