Roll it like you stole it~

User Rating: 8.5 | Katamari Damacy PS2
There are a lot of games out there that focus solely on plot, creative character development but a lot of times they forsake the most basic of things and that's fun and enjoyment; Katamari Damacy is one of those games that caters well to both of these.

What can I say about this game, it's literally mindless and requires little to no thought while playing it; you're basically taking this pint sized prince and rolling up all sorts of objects, from tacks to shovels to cows to giant sized squid and corporate buildings. This is one of those pick up and go any time games where you can just sit, relax and roll away.

The plot, though not really needed is that the King of Cosmos blitzed around space and destroyed all the stars in the sky, your job is to roll around a Katamari making it as big as possible to replace these said stars, you're given a time limit in which to accomplish this task and once you've reached the required size you are allowed to continue onward and try for a high score. Between each star that you make there's a cut scene that unfolds that continues on the story line somewhat, it's not really that exciting but they're funny to watch.

You're given a little variety in which when you create constellations that you're given certain criteria in which to complete the Katamari, like Gemini, you have to roll up the Doppler gangers of everything the higher your count on twins the more pleased the King of Cosmos is; that silly looking arrogant jerk.

Have some fun with your friends in two player battle mode, where the Cosmos King totally forgot his own son. You battle it out by trying to make the bigger Katamari of coarse, once you've attained a certain size you can roll over your friend's Katamari just to be a jerk and steal away some of his hard rolled paraphernalia, you can also attack them by rapidly toggling both analog sticks up and down, or just to zoom across the screen randomly, that confuses the heck out of people.

Kicking it to the masses,

Graphics: It's more stylistic than other games seen out there, where the animals and people are square looking and the turnips look like tampons… yeah. It's enjoyable to watch as you go roll about the populous as the people you boulder over struggle for freedom, buwahaha!

Sound: Enjoyable tunes with a catchy beat that never outstays its presents or makes it intolerable to play through a stage; the sounds certain objects make as they're gathered up are good enough to put a grin on anyone's face.

Playability: Simplistic control, there's really not much to the game, most times you're using the analogs occasionally jumping up on top of your Katamari to take a gander around, other than that everything works smoothly.

Entertainment: Very relaxing, after a day at work or school it's good just to come home and play a mindlessly amusing game, the quirks of this game make it difficult to dislike it for any reason, think of it as the equivalent of that office toy you squeeze to make its eyes bug out. Oh yeah~

Replay: There's gifts to be had, silly King is always dropping presents for you to roll up and get; pick these up and you'll have different equipment to put on your green prince. From a chef hat to a white guitar just for aesthetic value it makes replaying through the levels worth it; as well as trying to top your old scores; you get a better ending the bigger you make the moon toward the end.

All in all: Very fun game that can easily burn up an empty afternoon, its one of those pick up and go anytime games that anyone could easily learn to play; adults and kids alike will enjoy the light hearted nature of this game, albeit a little strange at times… Royal Rainbow!!!
