A solid turn-based strategy game that retells the story of Joan of Arc with a stylish twist.

User Rating: 8.5 | Jeanne d'Arc PSP
I always loved the square grid turn-based strategy genre like FF Tactics, and Jeanne D'arc does a good job making this old-school genre rock again with a new recipe - Godspeed transformation. Like Sailormoon, some of your characters including Jeanne herself can transform into a sort of celestial being with more elaborate armor that have special skills and a Godspeed mode that can turn the tide of the battlefield by trashing the enemies one-shot or get your team out of a tricky situation.

For those familiar with the original legend of Joan of Arc, you may be interested in how this modern take of the heroine's story turns out, accompanied with lots of action-packed anime movies. One other great feature is the use of skill gems like materias in FFVII or Crisis Core, which makes customization of characters' skillsets for specific battles a fun aspect of the game. You can also combine gems to create new skill gems of a more rare variety.

Also, I love the inclusion of side quests in the form of "free combat" in mysterious locations that sprung out from time to time. These are the real challenging ones that reaps the best rewards which are unattainable if you just go along with the main quests. So I guess if you're an FFVII or FF Tactics fan, you may want to check this game out based on the features mentioned above, if not, you will still find this 30 hour game an enjoyment if you love the turn-based strategy genre.
