An Instant Classic

User Rating: 9 | Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy PS2

Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy provides an unforgettable experience with its unique characters, beautiful locations, fun combat, interesting challenges, and lighthearted humor. Jak and Daxter is very friendly to those who are new to video games, starting the player off at Geyser Rock. This very first level serves as a tutorial for the player, solely getting them familiar with the controls of the game. Another thing that I really like about the game is that it seamlessly transitions from day to night within the time frame of about 30 minutes, something that the majority of games during its time lacked. While challenging, this platformer is also very forgiving to gamers of all levels as well as rewarding. However, the games' camera left something to be desired as it locked up at certain spots when the player could have really benefited from changing the angle. Also, while I enjoyed the process of collecting precursor orbs and powercells, after a while those things do become a tad repetitive.

Pros: Originality, gameplay, music, voice acting, controls

Cons: Camera, collection heavy

While the game does at times have an uncooperative camera and the amount of emphasis it puts on collecting items can become a little tiresome, the game oozes with originality, going far beyond what other games of its genre went during its time. To elaborate, what makes this game so special is its free roaming, variety filled gameplay; catchy, charming music that you'll be humming for months to come; witty dialogue throughout this game, and solid controls.
