Jak 3 features very well done and varied gameplay, but no single aspect of it is particularly memorable or impressive.

User Rating: 7.9 | Jak 3 PS2
The PS2 is approaching the end of its life. This means that it is a perfect time to track down some great games you might have missed when they first came out. Jak 3 is an ideal game for this. No aspect of it is particularly innovative or surprising, but the game still provides an engaging, light hearted and worthwhile experience worth checking out. .

The presentation of Jak 3 is very well done. The graphics have a clean and cartoony look that makes a nice first impression and stays interesting throughout. The music, voice acting and weapon sounds are all great, some of the humor does fall a bit flat., but the game is fairly funny . In terms of gameplay, Jak 3 provides a nice mix of action platforming and vehicle racing or combat mssions. All of these are done well and consistently fun. However, none of these are more thrilling or memorable than what you could find in another action platformer. One of the nicest things about Jak 3 is that it provides a constant stream of missions. However, this mission structure does get annoying after a while, as you complete one mission after another, the game begins to feel like it is in a bit of a rut and starts to become less immersive and cinematic. Also, you end up wasting a lot of time going from one location to another to get your next mission, which grates pretty badly on your nerves. .

Nobody can argue that Jak 3 is a very well made game. The fact that the gameplay is as varied as it is but still manages to be fun throughout is a testament to good design through and through. Once you do finish the game, you can't help but feel a bit empty. If Jak 3 had taken a few more risks with its gameplay, it could have been remembered as the best platformer on the PS2, but, as it is, Jak 3 will remain an excellent, yet forgettable 12 hour adventure.
