Despite some repetition and technical issues, Infamous shines by rejecting current gaming trends.
Infamous is very neatly structured, which is somewhat of a concern regarding repetition. Way too many similar patterns like the trenching through the sewer systems and mission progression are somewhat of an annoyance. However, this does not take away from the fact that there are many different missions to undertake (climbing buildings, collecting dead drops, frenzy type missions, train riding, stunts, following electrical ghosts, escorting prisoners, etc.).
The controls are smooth and intuitive. Every button is used by the end of the game. There is no auto aim, and climbing buildings feels natural (unlike holding a few buttons and watching animations in Assassins Creed...).
Big props to this game for gradually and seamlessly increasing the difficulty level. This is very rare in today's games and I can easily compare this approach to Ninja Gaiden (unlike Ninja Gaiden 2 where the difficulty was all over the place.).
Gameplay (8.5/10):
+Very smooth controls
+No stupid cover or auto aim systems
+Great boss fights (The final boss makes your fingers hurt hehe)
+Great variety of missions (-which are repeated a little too often)
+Fairly long game
+Very replayable
+Good versus bad descision affect your powers
+Great story
-Enemy types are pretty similar
-When you're in the air the game will redirect your character to the closest ledge (very annoying)
-Sewer parts are way too similar
Graphics (9/10):
+Sweet art design and environments
+Just the right amount of muted colors versus ones that stand out
+Great special effects
+Gritty and detailed surroundings
+Great lighting
-Framerate issues
-The three city districts look very similar
Sound (9.5/10):
+Fantastic voice acting
+Atmospheric music
+Sound effects are powerful and appropriate
-Some writing could have been better
Value (9/10)
+Cheap nowadays
+Long
+Replayable
+No idiotic DLCs...
-Longevity is in part due to repetition
I think anyone who likes decent games needs to buy this one. Not nearly as generic as I thought it would be.
Overall enjoyment level for me (independent of individual scores):
9/10
