User Rating: 7 | In Cold Blood PS
In Cold Blood is a game that is in many ways difficult to assess. When you first play, you are let down by the rather poor graphics. They are not terribly poor but they are very bland and boring. This is an instant put off of the game, but I stook with it. The story is actually rather gripping, almost on the level of the Broken Sword games, although not quite as entertaining. But this is the vibe the game gives off. I actually enjoyed the game once I got to terms with the jagged graphics and unrealistic control system. In Cold Blood, despite the good story, is a very frustrating game. It can take a very limited amount of shots from the enemy to kill you, so the best way is to save your progress at any given time, as you can guarantee you'll be getting killed on a regular basis. The game has plenty of different locations that adds to the variety but the levels that include the flying robots are supremely annoying. On the one hand, it keeps up the tension and keeps you alert, but for the wrong reasons. You actually fear these bloody things because if they see you, you are dead meat and it puts you off playing as frustration can become too great. Tension in a game is good, but this game takes it too far as this is not really the intention of the game, as it is stronger as a story rather than shoot 'em up. Overall, this game isn't great, but it comes on two cd's and is long enough and presents enough of a challenge (sometimes far too much of one let me add) to keep you occupied. If you like slow moving games, involving gripping storylines and plenty of character interaction, then this could be a worthy purchase. For the playstation , this game could be compared to Broken Sword, but as mentioned, it is not quite as good, although you can walk one your own rather than use the point and click method of movement. And there you go, 7/10...
