I forgot, what's good about ICO?

User Rating: 5.8 | ICO PS2
This game is really overrated. So overrated, in fact, that I wouldn't be afraid to call it the most overrated game of this generation. It's not that bad, per se, but it doesn't really have much going for it outside of it's artistic appeal. The story, the characters, and the atmosphere all scream out "emo". This game is supposed to make you feel emotional somehow, but as I played it, I was left bored and asking "why" this game is supposed to be all that and a bag of chips. Not just regular chips either, those chinese food flavored ones that are like $5 dollars a bag, good stuff right there. ICO has good graphics, if nothing else. The scenery and artistic look it has is really something special that few games manage to match or mimmick. Any place throughout the game is completely recognizable and fitting for the overall armosphere of the game. However, the characters, and all of the enemies look really boring. So boring that I want to go to sleep instead of playing it. The gameplay is also really boring. It's like an adventure game, but instead of being story and puzzle driven like good adventure games should have, this one is a ring-around-the-rosey simulator. Too bad, though, 'cause if it was about interesting puzzles and a cool story, it might have pulled the overall package together quite a bit. A lot of hardcore gamers are going to be drawn to this game, because it's a cult classic. It's typical that they would be too, because they think it makes them look like they're better gamers for playing games "no one has heard of," even though tons of people have actually. ICO isn't terrible, it's borderline good, even. But the way it plays and the way it's presented is just so lame that it makes me really dislike the game. I think it's really overrated by critics and hardcore gamers alike. It's not even close to the game people claim it is, plus it's super short. Weak.
