More Hotline, now with Bigger Hallways!

Everything that's been said about this game is true. The soundtrack is incredible, the art style is imaginitive, and the gameplay has a kinetic energy that you can't find anywhere else.

My only complaint is the large map design. In the original Hotline Miami the player was occasionally required to hold down a "look ahead" button (default mapped to Shift) in order to see around corners and through doorways and avoid untimely termination. In Hotline Miami 2 the maps are so large that death from afar, and off-screen, is probable unless you ride that Shift key like a 3 dollar mule. This can be frustrating when you want to play fast and loose.

That being said, the new style of map design does make the game more challenging, and given the provisions Dennaton Games have made for repeat play of individual levels, it is likely that enemy positions and geometry will sear into my brain in the way of Mega Man. It is entirely possible that I will enjoy this game more in the future than I do now, at release window, simply because of time-worn proficiency.

Still, the positive qualities that I have breezed over (fully covered in O'Dwyer's official review), outweigh this negative.

And it's only $15. Worth it.
