Good game for the $$. Unfortunately, THQ does not even try to stop the hacked players and this game is now history!!!!
I have been playing Homefront for some time now. I have been throught the single player mode a few times and have been playing multiplayer regularly. I reached level 75 in about 2 months of on and off play and feel really good about my skill level. Unlike COD and Battlefield 2, you can't camp. Camping is for losers. The only exception to this is snipers that displace as a strategy of sniping. If I were to change anything when designing this game, I would make the arena's larger. Looking from the sky while in the game, there is so much more out there than what your allowed to play in. It becomes more apparent in the Ground Control maps where the maps are bigger and you have more ground to take over than the basic death match ones.
First and a huge PLUS in my book are that the controls and movement are precise so you can run and gun without feeling like your running in the mud or tied up in rubber bands. There is no quick scoping that I can tell. There are multitudes of weapons, explosives, drones, and even tanks and choppers. Yes, there are about 3 useless weapons in there such as both sniper rifles and an ultra slow and low damage LMG but the rest are good to go. (I have maxed out the skill levels on them but these three) My favorite explosive to date is the C4. Grenades are my second favorite but theres nothing like setting a trap or defending a position with C4 and surprising the hell out of your opponent when he gets blown up in the air. The drones add a level of play on their own. You have a spy drone that allows you to spot and locate the enemy for the rest of your team. You have a helicopter drone that fires mini missles, you have a .50 cal tracked drone that you can hunt down ground troops with, and you have a missle launcher tracked drone that is good for taking out helicopters or ground vehicles. The ground vehicles are the HMMWV with a .50 cal turret. A LAV personnel carrier with what seems to be a 25 or 30mm cannon and missle launcher. A Abrams type main battle tank with its main gun and a turret mounted .50 cal. A chopper with twin vulcan miniguns. And an Apache type attack helicopter with missles and machine gun cannon. Also an important key in the game is what kind of skills you select for your soldier. Similar to COD but better in my opinion. Things like "shoot from the hip", "blastwave", "cold as ice", and "boomer" are a must to use depending on your weapon choice and style of attack. I have seen a few issues with a few of the weapons I am more than a little ticked off about. For example, I have fired and hit many, MANY enemy soldiers in the chest with the two type of RPG's available in the game as well as the missle launcher drone just have have them smile and continue towards me and kill me. This is quite unacceptable and is just ONE of the bugs that need to be squashed.
Finally, I come to the miserable part.... I came to Homefront because I was tired of playing MAG day after day. I can't stand Battlefield 2 and hate Metal of Honor multiplayer. I was playing COD: MW2 regularly, that is, until early January 2011 when the cowards hacked the crap out of it. I searched many a game and saw Homefront and got it at the $30 mark. It has been a great game and still is until the cowards show up to play with their aim bots, wall hacks, lag switches, and the like. Cheaters, cowards, pieces of s**t, losers, or whatever you may call them are always around. I can't stand a cheater. These are the same trash type low life people that would cowardly sneak up to key your car. They have no honor or skill and feel nothing when cheating someone else. I am deeply confused as to why THQ has not taken action to eliminate cheating in the game and would like to see some action on their part soon. Homefront 2 is in development but I tend to frown on manufacturers who do not provide the customer/player with antihack support like INFINITY WARD and lean away from their products as a result.
