In my opinion, Contracts is really a step up for the Hitman series in terms of gameplay.

Although most people wouldn't like it much because it is basically missions from the first game, Codename: 47, the gameplay is much more sharp and flexible, while still keeping some difficulty from Silent Assassin in it. Recently, I picked up the Hitman Trilogy, and started playing the games in order. This game really antes the gameplay and brings a much more distinctive, dark, moody atmosphere to the Hitman games that none of the previous ones have ever established.

The gameplay really took a large step on this one, compared to my problems with part 2. First, you'll notice that there is no run button. People won't mind you running anymore as long as you remain a distance, or are not wearing a disguise similar to theirs (i.e. guards, policemen, etc.). It was a huge relief for me after playing Silent Assassin. However, people of the same rank for your disguise will get a bit anal if you get close to them. Secondly, you sneak much faster in this one, enough to catch up to walking, unsuspecting people. This really is a huge step up because it lets you make a better use for the fiber wire that you've been craving to strangle people with. Some parts of the gameplay have become a bit unbelievable, such as 47 blending in with a Triad gang without them knowing that he's a Caucasian man. Hah, it doesn't matter, though. The gameplay has improved.

Next to gameplay are the graphics, which shaped up little from the last Hitman games. The more noticable features in the graphics were the settings and their atmospheres and tones. Missions like the Meat King's Party to Traditions of the Trade really amused me with the way they were set. The graphics have improved mostly on the atmosphere portion.

Sound is still great. Jesper Kyd is still at it with the game's soundtrack, which is still capturing more of the game's tone. If the soundtrack was totally changed, I'd probably hate the game in general. David Bateson is doing the voice again, and I wouldn't want it any other way. He is still bringing 47 to life with his deep, unique voice. Awesome sound.

There's still not much replay value in this game, considering that there are only 12 missions. Just like Silent Assassin, you would only go back for the best rating, which is, of course, silent assassin.

Overall, my experience with this game was much more comfortable than with part 2. I really liked how the stages were set up and the overall atmosphere and tone. Hitman: Contracts really is a good game, but I only played it because I never touched part 1 before. It takes a good step up from Silent Assassin.
