Rock out to some of history's greatest songs.

User Rating: 8 | Guitar Hero PS2
Guitar Hero, the original, provides quite a new concept to the whole rhythm-game base. Instead of moving to a beat, let's tap on the concept of pitch and real music. Guitar Hero accomplishes something that many other rhythm games cannot, create instant popularity and lasting appeal with popular music.

Included in the game's soundtrack are popular hits like Queens of the Stone Age's "No One Knows," Queen's "Killer Queen," Incubus's "Stellar," Ozzy Osbourne's "Bark at the Moon." and Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Texas Flood." In addition to the main tracks, there are a variety of independent artists, mostly out of the Boston area including Harmonix favorite Freezepop.

The game takes you on a tour of various venues, as you have to rock out to 3 or 4 songs at each venue to unlock the encore song and move on to bigger and better places. Except for Easy mode, you earn cash to take to the store and spend on characters, guitars, bonus songs, and videos.

For those looking for multiplayer, there are some limits. The only experience in this game is to compete on a song that takes turns back and forth giving passages and determining who can rock out harder.

This game was a solid foundation for the other games to emerge from. While the multiplayer is the weakest component, the visuals and sounds are excellent. This was also pre-HDTV so I cannot really take points off for not being prepared to the HD-revolution. Excellent play if you want to go back and invest in it.
