Good fun, but for that freaking pricetag, it better be.

User Rating: 8.4 | Guitar Hero II PS2
When i first saw this game, i thought it looked ridicilous, i mean, pushing buttons? Rythm? But after i tried it myself, i was pleasantly suprised as this game is really fun, even after the novelty of the guitar has passed. Gameplay: The game is either played out trough a ''Story line'' (Not much story involved, it mainly let's you unlock music)
or quickplay, OR if you have a guitar toting friend, multiplayer.
It's easy to get the basics, just pick up the guitar (you have hands....right?)
and press the buttons as they scroll down the screen. Thing is, you need a seriously good eye/finger coordination for the later difficulties, or you'll just end up mashing without reason, and that's also why this is so fun. It's hard. Damn hard. Playing at easy or normal, you don't use all the buttons, making it easy for you to ace most songs, but once you're up to hard, or extreme? Five buttons, everything going very fast, and you sweating and trying to keep the rythm. Not alot of games have this kind of difficutly, and still manages to be fun.Let's not forget about the audience, they demand that you keep a certain standard. everything might just go so bad that you'll end up with a failed song. not fun. There are also a few techniques you can use to gain more points, such as ''star power'' Wich you can activate by tilting the guitar up (looks stupid, guaranteed to make people around you shake their heads in embarressment, but what do you care? you're having fun!) Pull-offs and hammer-ons are also part of these, but you can learn all about that in the handy tutorials. The guitar itself is comfortable to hold, and comes with a handy strap.

Graphics: heh, if any other game would have these graphics, it would be called sup-par, but luckily the graphics style work well with the game. Besides, you won't spend much time watching the scenery. Character models look kinda crappy, and a little strange at times.
The ''play-area* itself looks nice and flashy, with each note you press bursts into fire.
The audience is extremely repetive, with about the same three characters all in all. What about the loading screens you scream? (Stop screaming)
Humorous to say at least, and you'll smile more that once. Other that that...Don't put the stickers you get with the game on the guitar. They're damned impossible to get off.
The menues are nice to look at, nothing really spectacular.

Sound: Easily the best part of the game. (duh) The song selection is great, with a few exceptions. The game's music is perfectly in sync with the gameplay, and it really makes you feel like it's real.
Most of the songs are rock, a few metal, and a few..ehh..retro-robotic-organico-soldier's love songs set during the philliphines-american war. Hm.
My only complaint is that there wasn't enough metal, and that Freebird is the MOST boring track ever written. (IMO)
What more is there to say? Don't expect me to list all the songs here.

Value: Quite much, as this is a perfect example of the ''Easy to play, hard to master'' kind of game, and even after you've mastered it, you can always go back to play again and again. The only way this could be improved would be by adding downloadable songs for GH3. But ultimatly it's up to you. If you like this kind of music, and want something different to play, this is the perfect choice, if you can look past the price.

Two thumbs up from the Foodthing!
